PRX, or Periaxin, allows nerve insulation to stretch as the nerves get longer when the body grows. If the Periaxin gene is faulty, the insulation (myelin) does not lengthen and the nerves cannot conduct impulses quickly.
The PRX gene is located at 19q13.1-13.2 (on the long arm of chromosome 19 between positions 13.1 and 13.2).
